Introduction:
The Dr Ambedkar Business Fair held at Bittan Market, Bhopal, from 22nd to 25th June 2023, was a momentous event that celebrated the indomitable spirit of entrepreneurship and empowerment among the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. Organized by the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce (DICCI) with the support of the Madhya Pradesh State Government and various key departments and banks, this four-day fair aimed to inspire, educate, and create opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs from marginalized communities.
Fostering Entrepreneurship:
The fair offered a vibrant platform for more than 200 SC-ST entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative business ideas and products. With 2 German Hangers, 2 Domes, and multiple stalls and exhibition halls, the fair was a bustling hub of ideas and collaborations. The event not only provided a space for business promotion but also enabled these entrepreneurs to network with potential investors, industry experts, and mentors, thus nurturing their entrepreneurial dreams.
Diverse Clusters:
One of the highlights of the fair was the establishment of various thematic clusters, each focusing on different sectors with immense potential for growth.
- Waste Management Cluster: In this cluster, experts discussed the importance of sustainable waste management and recycling practices. Entrepreneurs showcased innovative solutions to tackle waste-related challenges, creating awareness about eco-friendly alternatives and the economic opportunities that lie in waste management.
- Leather Cluster: The Leather Cluster showcased the rich heritage of India's leather industry. Skilled artisans and manufacturers displayed their exquisite craftsmanship while emphasizing the need for ethical sourcing and sustainable practices. The cluster aimed to promote entrepreneurship in the leather sector and foster collaborations to create a thriving ecosystem.
- Bamboo Cluster: The Bamboo Cluster highlighted the versatility and eco-friendly nature of bamboo as a sustainable resource. Exhibitors displayed an array of innovative bamboo products, from furniture to construction materials. The cluster aimed to encourage sustainable bamboo cultivation and promote entrepreneurship in the bamboo sector.
- Hygiene Cluster: This cluster focused on promoting awareness and entrepreneurship in the hygiene product sector. Entrepreneurs showcased a range of innovative and sustainable hygiene products, from personal care items to cleaning solutions. The cluster aimed to support local entrepreneurs in the hygiene sector and foster collaborations to meet the growing demand for hygienic products.
Supporting Aspirations:
DICCI's Business Facilitation Center (BFC) played a crucial role in guiding aspiring entrepreneurs on various aspects of starting and growing a business. The center provided valuable information on new business opportunities, government schemes, and financial assistance. Over 12,000 aspirants visited the BFC during the fair, with around 800 aspirants registering for mentoring assistance and availing scheme benefits.
Notable Visitors:
The fair was graced by esteemed personalities, including the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shiv Raj Singh Chauhan, and the MSME Minister of MP, Shri Om Prakash Sackhlecha. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the government's commitment to fostering inclusive growth and entrepreneurship.
